About the artist

I was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana and graduated from Northwestern State in 2011 in Art. “I was always into art from an early age and decided to go into the fine arts field soon after graduating from Edna Karr High School.” Rickey concentrated on graphic design while attending Northwestern State University from 2005-2011.

At NSU, I was very active on campus and participated in various organizations such as the African American Caucus and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, where he served as president. He also presented at the NSU research day and received the "Outstanding Achievement in Graphic Communications Award."

Soon after graduating from Northwestern State, I decided to begin his career in art education. While teaching, he started concentrating on his paintings and focusing on improving his skills as a visual artist.

I have exhibited at the Ashe' Cultural Arts Museum, Rosa Keller Library, and Dillard University. My work has been featured in The New Orleans Advocate and Nola.com.  I currently live and teach Art and Graphic Design at Lake Area New Tech Early College High School.  I am also the proud owner of Van Geaux Painting which provides painting parties for groups throughout New Orleans.
